Big Band Slam

The Big Band Slam – Tuesday, June 28, 1-4 pm at The Rex Hotel

Each year the Big Band Slam brings together high school bands from across the Greater Toronto Area for an afternoon of trumpet blasting, trombone sliding, sax squealing excitement. The Slam is not a competition; it is instead a chance to showcase some of the outstanding music being made by high school music students across the city.

The 2016 Slam featured bands from Cawthra Park Secondary School, Loretto College School, Marshall McLuhan Catholic Secondary School and Mayfield Secondary School. Acclaimed local saxophonist Colleen Allen acted as special guest for the Slam, rehearsing with each band in advance and performing with each band at the Slam. Feedback from all involved this year was especially positive, reflecting Colleen’s enrichment of the rehearsal and performance process, and a desire to make the Slam a more than once-a-year initiative.

The Big Band Slam is a free, all-ages event, and is generously supported by the Ken Page Memorial Trust.and The Asper Foundation
