Youth Jazz Showcase

Each year, Toronto Downtown Jazz brings together three groups, featuring emerging jazz artists from around the country and around the world, for two days of music, mentorship and fun. Day one, hosted by Youth Jazz Canada at Humber College, includes rehearsals, jam sessions and shared musical experiences; the Youth Jazz Showcase culminates on day two with a performance by all three groups.

The 2016 Youth Jazz Showcase concert took place on Saturday, July 2, 12:30 - 2 pm at the Toronto Star Stage at Nathan Phillips Square.

An annual celebration of outstanding young talent from at home and abroad, the Youth Jazz Showcase this year featured the National Youth Jazz Combo (Canada), David Gilmore and the BGJI Quintet (from Berklee College in Boston) and, from Hokkaido, Japan (and back this year by popular demand), North Pandemic Groove Quartet. In the two days prior to the performance, the three ensembles worked together at Humber College, exchanging musical ideas and sharing the universal language that is jazz. The July 2nd Showcase featured 30-minute sets from each ensemble and was well-received by the enthusiastic audience.

The Youth Jazz Showcase was generously supported by the Ken Page Memorial Trust and The Asper Foundation.
